Early Pink Lady apples are an early version of the standard Pink Lady, according to a news release from Yakima, Wash.-based Pink Lady America.
Unlike later Pink Lady apples, the early crop is ready to market right off the tree. Later Pink Lady apples can require storage for sugars and acids to balance.
“This is already a grower favorite because of its early harvest, and before long it will be making more consumers happy because it extends the season for the Pink Lady brand apple,” Lynnell Brandt, president of Yakima-based Brandt’s Fruit Trees Inc., said in the release. “Consumers will see instantly that being early hasn’t changed the quality of this apple. It measures right up there when it comes to the unique and market-proven flavor, crisp texture and a one-of-a-kind pink color which isn’t distinguishable from the original.”
Early Pink Lady apples are harvested as much as three weeks earlier than the traditional Pink Lady, which is prone to freeze damage because the crop is harvested so late, Brandt said.
