Booth Ranches increases bagging

In anticipation of the 2013-14 season, Booth Ranches LLC, Orange Cove, Calif., has increased its bagging capacity to meet customer demand and has added the capability to produce full-wrap bags.

The new pack will be offered for the Booth Ranches fancy choice labels, said Tracy Jones, vice president of domestic sales.

In addition, Booth Ranches will offer header bags, mesh bags and combo bags.

Crown Jewels Produce adds Krissy red grape

Fresno, Calif.-based Crown Jewels Produce will have limited quantities of the Krissy red seedless table grape available this year, said Atomic Torosian, managing partner.

It was developed by Tim Sheehan, owner of Sheehan Genetics LLC, Porterville, Calif., who died in 2009.

The variety, a midseason harvested after flames, is known for its crisp texture and exceptional flavor, according to the website for Special New Fruit Licensing Ltd., Chatteris, England, which is helping license the variety worldwide.

Kingsburg continues Crunchy Golds

The beginning of school also marked the start of the fifth asian pear season for Kingsburg Orchards.

The Kingsburg, Calif.-based grower-shipper will offer its California-grown Crunchy Gold asian pears through about the end of October, said Dan Spain, vice president of sales and marketing.

A proprietary variety, Crunchy Gold has bright yellow skin and creamy white, crisp interior. The flavor is a cross between an apple and a pear.

Asian pears remain white and crunchy when cut, making them great to cut up in kids’ lunch boxes or as an after-school snack, he said.

They also are high in fiber and vitamins A and C.

In addition, Kingsburg Orchards offers high graphic displays for retailers.

“There’s not a lot of room in retail, but retailers like this so they find room for it,” Spain said.
