California Giant cyclists advance

Courtesy California Giant Berry FarmsMeredith Miller of the California Giant/Specialized cycling team takes her first UCI win at Great Brewers Gran Prix of Gloucester. The California Giant and Specialized cycling team has qualified three members for the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Koksijde, Belgium.

Cyclists Meredith Miller, Cody Kaiser and Tobin Ortenblad are joining the U.S. team for the Jan. 28-29 event, according to a news release.

Sponsor California Giant Berry Farms is based in Watsonville, Calif. Specialized Bicycle Components is based in Morgan Hill, Calif.

Boulder, Colo.-based Miller notched a top-15 result at the UCI World Cup race in Tabor, Czech Republicm, to qualify.

Kaiser, El Dorado Hills, Calif., will ride in the under-23 race as a discretionary selection. Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Ortenblad, 18, also advances.

“We are excited to be included in this exclusive roster this year and look forward to seeing our athletes compete for the U.S.,” Anthony Gallino, team director and California Giant vice president of sales, said in the release. “All three of our riders have worked hard this season to earn a spot on the U.S. team and we hope they do well against the tremendous competition.”
