Giumarra International Berry expects to import more blueberries from the Southern Hemisphere this season.
Chilean air shipments could begin arriving in mid-November, with the first vessel shipments following the week of Dec. 3, Tom Richardson, general manager of Giumarra International Berry, a division of Los Angeles-based The Giumarra Cos., said in a news release.
“We are looking forward to the upcoming Chilean blueberry season, and we will have a complete Nature’s Partner program of blueberries from the Southern Hemisphere,” Richardson said. “Our sourcing team works continuously to ensure we have adequate supply, and our volumes will exceed last year’s. The fresh blueberry category continues to be very profitable for our customers as consumption drives demand.”
Fruit should ship into April, when U.S. blueberry seasons begin, Richardson said. The company also expects to import more organic blueberries from Chile this season.
Giumarra International Berry has marketed Giumarra’s blueberry and blackberry programs since 2003. Giumarra has been importing berries from the Southern Hemisphere since the late 1990s.
