Naturipe trivia contest promotes health benefits

Trying to promote the health benefits of berries, Naturipe Farms LLC is sponsoring a trivia contest.

Naturipe FarmsNaturipe Farms is sponsoring a trivia contest to promote the health benefits of berries On July 24, the Naples, Fla.-based Naturipe launched its first “Very Berry Summer Trivia Contest” on its Facebook page.

Naturipe plans to base questions on the nutritional and historical facts about strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries consumers can find on Naturipe’s website.

Every Trivia Tuesday, Naturipe plans to pose a berry trivia question on its Facebook page.

The following Monday, Naturipe will award one prize of five coupons redeemable free packages of fresh Naturipe berries. It plans to award a $50 American Express gift card to a randomly selected user who scores the correct answer.

Naturipe posted these berry trivia facts:

  • Just eight strawberries have more vitamin C than a medium orange;
  • Blueberries are thought to be helpful in improving memory function and healthy aging;
  • Ellagitannins, a family of compounds almost exclusive to the raspberry, are reported to have anti-cancer activity and contribute to the raspberry’s antioxidant power;
  • Just a half-cup serving of raw blackberries has about the same fiber content as a three-fourths cup of brown rice.

The contest runs through Aug. 20.
