Rivermaid Trading Co.Dinuba, Calif.-based Wespak Sales Inc. has merged its sales and marketing with Lodi, Calif.-based Rivermaid Trading Co. after a 10-year working relationship.

The two entities will continue to operate separately under mutual leadership, ownership and marketing, although sales representatives will sell both companies’ products, according to a news release.

Rivermaid Trading focuses on California fresh pear and cherry marketing.

Wespak has focused on stone fruit as well as apricots, grapes, pomegranates and cherries.

Together, they represent a $100-million operation, according to the release.

Blair Richardson, Wespak Sales chief executive officer, said the two entities complement each other.

“Our weaknesses were there strengths, and vice versa,” he said. “As a group, we’ll now have product in the market place essentially year round.

“We’ll now pack, ship or sell just about every commodity from a tree or vine in the valley.”

The merger also creates efficiencies between the two operations.

"Our growers will immediately benefit from the strengths in the domestic presence of Rivermaid Trading, and Rivermaid Trading will benefit from Wespak's leadership in the international marketplace," Richardsonn said.

The decision to merge the companies began about three years ago when Richardson was brought in to lead the process.
