California Table Grape Commission offers scholarships

The California Table Grape Commission offers two educational donations through their community outreach program.

“The table grape growers in California volunteer their time and service,” Kathleen Nave, president of the commission, said in a news release. “The community outreach program is another way they show their support for the communities where they live and work.”

Three students who will attend a four-year college or university in California are awarded $20,000 scholarships, and four students attending a junior college or trade school in California will be awarded $3,500.

The scholarship program is worker focused and only available to table grape field workers and their children.

For the 2011-12 school year, 34 grants for classroom projects in the areas of areas of math, science, agriculture, California history, art and health will be awarded. These grants, of up to $750, are available to elementary, junior high and high school teachers. Projects have included gardens, labs, a river exploration field trip, and music and cooking lessons for special needs students.
