Dulcich expands Green Emeralds

Courtesy J.P. Dulcich & SonsCalifornia table grapes grower J.P. Dulcich & Sons has expanded the growing area for its seedless grape, the Green Emerald, marketed by Sunlight International Sales.

Building on past trial production, Delano, Calif.-based Dulcich has increased acreage on its Arvin and Maricopa ranches, according to the company. Expected availability is mid-August through the end of November.

Last December, the grower-shipper received a plant patent for Green Emerald. It was in development since 2007. A dedicated test parcel was planted in 2009. More plantings followed two years later.

Sunlight International, Dulcich’s marketing arm, is promoting the variety as an extra large, sweet seedless green grape with high brix.

 

King Fresh widens pack options

King Fresh Produce LLC is expanding its clamshell grape offering this season with a 20-count pack of 1-pounders in all varieties, said Rene Millburn, public relations director.

The Dinuba, Calif.-based shipper provides grapes in a variety of fixed-weight pouch bags and clamshells. For retailers preferring generic packaging, King Fresh has added a clear pouch bag.

Social media badge icons have been added to graphic pouch bags along with a scannable quick-response code that takes consumers to King Fresh’s recently updated website.

The company expected to start California grapes around June 23 in the San Joaquin Valley. It has added acreage in 2014 for most varieties, Millburn said, but will continue to concentrate on late-season varieties like vintage red, autumn king and a few others King Fresh planned to announce later.

 

Chuck Olsen Co. boosts varietals

The Chuck Olsen Co., Visalia, Calif., is increasing acreage on several varieties in 2014, said Jeff Olsen, vice president.

That includes about 80 acres of scarlet royals and another 40 of sweet scarlet. Crimsons will see about a 20% lift.

The grower-shipper also is making a jump up on its autumn king production.

“We had very few of those last year, but now we’ll have around 40,000 to 50,000 boxes, a fair amount for us,” Olsen said. “We’re not monsters, but it will help us move some of our later reds as well.”

 

Salesman joins Visalia Produce

 Dan Garcia has joined Visalia Produce Sales Inc., Kingsburg, Calif., as a salesman.

 In April Garcia succeeded Tomoko Jost, who retired.

 Garcia’s previous experience included stints with Cutler, Calif.-based Wileman Bros. & Elliott Inc. and Dinuba, Calif.-based Fruit Patch Inc., said George Matoian, sales and marketing director.
