Frieda’s introducing “citrus caviar” finger limes

Frieda’s Inc. is adding to its specialty citrus line by introducing organic finger limes.

The Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s is offering the specialty limes in 50 gram and 4- and 8-ounce clamshells for retail, according to a news release.

Called “citrus caviar,” the small, California limes are now in season and Frieda’s expects to supply volume of the sought-after gourmet ingredient through December, according to the release.

It’s not uncommon for the fruit’s skin color to range from dark green to rusty red and its inside is greenish white to pink caviar-like bubbles of tangy citrus that “pop on the tongue,” Frieda’s officials said in the release.

“We have been shipping finger limes to chefs all over the country for several years, so we are very excited to have more plentiful supplies of these eye-catching finger limes,” Karen Caplan, Frieda’s president and chief executive officer, said in the release. “All kinds of citrus fruits are trending right now and consumers can find them in upscale supermarkets nationwide.”

To help increase impulse purchases, Frieda’s recommends displaying the limes with lemons and limes.
