“Some consumers are afraid of the term irradiated, he said.

But large chain grocery stores are starting to demand more flavor and better taste, and only the natural sugars from tree-ripened fruit can provide that, Gay said.

“I think irradiation is the future. Whether it takes five years or 15 years, I think just about anything shipped into the U.S. will be irradiated,” he said.

Gamma Irradiation is also used in India to treat Mangoes for export to the USA, the Krushak plant in Lasalgaon, India built by Symec Engineers has been used to treat Mangoes and other agricultural products. For more informaiton you can visit:

Irradiation as a phytosanitary treatment is much better option, than hot water treatment, because not only destroy the insect but also can increase the shelf life of the mango , without change the sensorial quality. and it is very important to increase the commodities treat by irradiation in order the consumer become more familiar with this technology.
