Helping further its social media presence, the mango industry is working with food bloggers to spread consumer interest in the fruit.
Members of the National Mango Board participated in the May 4-6 Camp Blogaway in Angelus Oaks, Calif.
The Orlando, Fla.-based mango board participated in the nontraditional and hands-on conference for recipe and food bloggers. The board co-sponsored the event and provided tips including selecting, ripening and cutting mangoes while building relationships with the food influencers through personal visits, according to a news release.
The board hosted a tasting exercise to introduce attendees to mango flavor pairings and discuss how ripeness influences taste. The board also hosted a nightly mango s’mores bar.
“The bloggers’ sincere excitement about mangos generated an energy level at Camp Blogaway that was truly remarkable,” Melanie Teel, a mango marketing manager said in the release. “It was a great feeling to walk away from that experience having genuinely inspired and informed the overwhelming majority of bloggers who attended.”
