A British Columbia fruit growers’ cooperative has changed its name.

Kelowna-based Okanagan Tree Fruit Cooperative, a group of 580 grower-shippers, is now the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative, according to a company news release.

In addition, the coop’s marketing arm, BC Tree Fruits Ltd. Trading, is now BC Tree Fruits Industries Ltd.

The daily operations and corporate structure of the organizations will not change.

“The name change is part of a larger move to consolidate operations and subsidiaries to achieve that result,” Alan Tyabji, the company’s chief executive officer, said in the release. “Our new name reflects the organization we have become, a competitive company focused on operating globally as a supplier of choice, and to bring all our efforts of our business under one name.”

The coop’s shippers grow apples, pears, cherries, peaches, apricots, prune plums and blueberries.
