The nationwide launch set for Aug. 11 includes fresh-cut vegetable snacks in bags and clamshells; mixed fruit purees in tubes that can also be frozen; and non-dairy fruit smoothies, according to a news release from the Bakersfield, Calif., company.
Packaging for the new products features fruit and vegetable cartoon characters and riddles such as “Why did the mango and pineapple stop in the middle of the road?” and “What do you call two banana skins?”
Designed for display in refrigerated areas in the fresh produce aisle, the Bolthouse Farm Kids line is an attempt to drive children to seek more healthful snacking options, according to the release.
“Junk food is winning the war on grabbing the attention of Americans, particularly our kids,” Bolthouse president and CEO Jeff Dunn said in the release.
“Our hope is that by introducing a line of products that kids want to eat and moms can feel good about, we can drive a lasting love of these foods and a healthier future for the next generation.”

Two flavors are available, “Carrot Meets Ranch” and “Carrot Meets Chili Lime.”The set of products will vary from retailer to retailer, but the overall theme is “kid craveability,” with the focus on children ages 4-11, according to the release.
Retailers including Giant Eagle, A&P and Hy-Vee are scheduled to offer the products with merchandising systems provided by Bolthouse.
Bolthouse Farms Kids Smoothies will be available in strawberry-banana and peach-mango” flavors. The Fruit Tubes will include banana-pineapple, strawberry-banana and blueberry-raspberry with Greek yogurt. Veggie Snackers are carrots and ranch dressing, and carrots with chili lime.
