(Nov. 9) NEW YORK — To increase its presence in the Tri-State region, Miami-based tropicals importer J&C Enterprises Inc. has opened a New York office.
The Bronx office opened Nov. 3 when New York office sales manager Roberto Soto moved his sales duties out of his home to an office seven blocks away from the Hunts Point Terminal Market.
J&C had been losing some customers because it didn’t have a representative in New York to work on customer service and collection issues, he said.
“New York’s a tough market especially when you don’t have anyone in the area,” Soto said.
Soto, who formerly worked as vice president of sales for ANA Distribution Inc., Bronx, joined J&C in July. He previously grew and shipped malanga, plantains and yucca from an Ecuadorian operation he owns.
J&C sells and distributes Central and South American and Caribbean tropicals and Florida-grown boniato and malanga to wholesalers in the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Connecticut area.
