University releases Florida crop outlook Web seminars

University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural SciencesThe University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences has posted recordings of a series of Web seminars concerning economic outlooks for Florida commodities.

The Gainesville-based university’s Food and Resource Economics department’s faculty and presented the seminars during the yearly January Florida Agricultural Outlook Conference, according to a news release.

The 15-40 minute seminars cover 10 topics and include these:

  • Florida citrus outlook: 2013-14 season by Matt Salois, chief economist with the Bartow-based Florida Department of Citrus;
  • Impact of international competition on Florida tomato and strawberry industries by Zhengfei Guan, an assistant professor with the university’s Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma, Fla.; and
  • Adoption of drought adaptation measures among Florida vegetable growers by assistant professor Kelly Grogan and graduate student Elizabeth van Dijl.
