Florida Citrus Hall of Fame seeking nominees

The Florida Citrus Hall of Fame is seeking nominations.

The Lakeland, Fla.-based organization’s induction ceremonies is scheduled March 7 at Florida Southern College in Lakeland.

Florida Citrus Hall of FameThe luncheon is co-sponsored by the Lakeland-based Florida Citrus Mutual and the Bartow-based Florida Department of Citrus.

Nominees should have made significant contributions to the Florida citrus industry in harvesting, packing, processing, marketing, scientific and/or educational areas, according to a news release.

Nominations are due Nov. 1 and should include a summary of the nominee’s accomplishments, letters of support from industry members and a photo, according to the release.

J. Brantley Schirard Sr., president of Fort Pierce, Fla.-based Schirard Citrus Inc., was one of last year’s inductees.

Others were Col. Francis Dancy, a pioneer grower known for introducing the dancy variety tangerine in 1867, the late Paul Harding, who is considered the father of citrus maturity standards, and Homer Hooks, who organized the state’s canners league.
