Ocean Mist sweepstakes awards $8,000

Courtesy Ocean Mist FarmsOne of four winning photos in Ocean Mist Farms' Take Your Pic sweepstakes, this was taken at a Wal-Mart in Reno, Nev. Ocean Mist Farms awarded $2,000 weekly to winners of its April sweepstakes for the best consumer photos of artichokes on sale at stores or in print ads.

About 2,388 photos were uploaded to the Castroville, Calif.-based grower-shipper’s mobile website, according to a news release.

The four winners came from shoppers at Publix, Wal-Mart and Kroger. Membership in the company’s Artichoke Aficionados club was required to win.

Ocean Mist Farms promoted the sweepstakes, dubbed Take Your Pic, with e-mail blasts to more than 34,000 club members; retail display contests; Save Mart banners; store signage; and artichoke petal inserts. There were also Facebook and Twitter promotions.

“(It) was the first consumer-generated content sweepstakes that rewarded fresh produce shoppers for being our eyes and ears in the marketplace and for helping other shoppers find artichokes on sale in their region,” Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development, said in the release.

“We will continue to support the spring artichoke peak season with these types of consumer engagement promotions in the future,” she added.

All submitted photos are posted at the sweepstakes website.
