Vega Produce names sales manager

RosenLloyd Rosen, a retail, wholesaling and brokerage sales veteran, has left retirement and now heads sales for a Miami-based grower-shipper of Central American specialty and ethnic-oriented produce.

On Jan. 15, Rosen joined Doral, Fla.-based Vega Produce LLC as sales manager.

Rosen, who’s sold produce for more than 40 years, leads a group of sales people for the company that grows, packs and ships Guatemalan and Honduran vegetables, including snow peas and sugar snap beans, tropicals and Asian and east Indian ethnic specialties.

Founded in 2009, Vega recently moved into a 45,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse close to Miami International Airport, Rosen said.

“This position fits me like a beautiful suit of clothing that doesn’t need any alterations,” Rosen said. “With the company’s ethnic lines, we are customizing our approach to take care of all cultures and all backgrounds.”

Vega ProduceRosen was director of produce for Miami-based Associated Grocers of Florida during the 1970s, was a Tampa, Fla.-based vice president in charge of Chilean fruit for the Vancouver, B.C.-based The Oppenheimer Group, and ran his own brokerage in Davie, Fla., before working as vice president and business development manager for William Manis Co. Produce Marketing in Plant City, Fla., for nine years.

He was also a lead salesman with the Tampa-based Tobi Co. Inc. brokerage and worked as business development director for M&M Farms Inc., Miami.

Rosen’s father, Sam Rosen, was a partner in a company that was an original tenant at the Hunts Point Terminal Market in New York after the old Washington Market in Manhattan moved to the Bronx. Lloyd Rosen’s son, Barry Rosen, is manager of southeast vegetables for Eden Prairie, Minn.-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc., in Miramar, Fla.
