More than 130 produce professionals attended a one-day Produce Traceability Initiative seminar in Miami.

“It was a great turnout and it brought a great value to all who attended,” said Priscilla Lleras, coordinator for the Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association and event organizer.

Attendees represented the fully supply chain, from growers to importers to retailers, she said.

Speakers at the Sept. 19 PTI workshop were Ed Treacy, vice president of supply chain efficiencies at the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association, and Dan Vaché, vice president of supply chain management for United Fresh Produce Association, Washington, D.C.

The seminar’s focus was evaluation and implementation of new traceability and food safety standards in the U.S., Lleras said. The event was inspired by a seminar on food safety and traceability in Peru in January, she said.

Presenting sponsors at the Miami seminar included AFS Technologies, BSI, FoodLink, HarvestMark, and Harvester Gear. Exhibitor sponsors for the show included Customized Brokers, Hellman Perishable Logistics, Link Fresh, Locus Traxx and Port Miami.
