The Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement board has hired a food safety consultant to help it meet a key goal in its strategic plan for 2012 — recognition by the Global Food Safety Initiative.
Consultant Clarisa Molina was introduced to the full LGMA board at an April 27 meeting, according to a news release. Scott Horsfall, president of the LGMA, said in the release that Molina will help the organization meet increasing demands from buyers for globally recognized food safety systems.
Molina previously worked for Azzule Systems, a subsidiary of PrimusLabs, Santa Clara, Calif., where she served as chief executive of global audit schemes.
While at Azzule she managed the benchmarking of the PrimusGFS scheme. She also served as a field representative and quality assurance director for auditing for Primus. Molina has been a participant with the GFSI technical working group since 2009.
Horsfall said GFSI recognition is an important issue for the LGMA handlers and buyers. He said in the release he is confident the LGMA can gain global recognition, but added that having Molina to assist in navigating the process will be a great benefit.
