Superior Sales Inc., Hudsonville, Mich., will begin its relationship with J&R Baker Farms, Norman Park, Ga., as of Sept. 15, according to a company news release. Superior president Randy Vande Guchte said in the release the deal will “close the gap on year-round supply.”
“It has been a long time coming and we are excited to partner with Jerod and Rodney Baker,” Vande Guchte said Aug. 1. “We finalized things a couple of weeks ago.”
The arrangement with J&R Baker Farms includes corn, cabbage, eggplant, peppers, cucumbers, squash and assorted greens, according to the release. The produce from J&R Baker Farms will be marketed under the Superior brand.
Vande Guchte said the relationship will “give us quite a significant increase in volumes.” He said in particular J&R Baker Farms will provide Superior Sales with a broader selection of mixed greens, which he said are a “little outside the box for us.”
Superior, which was founded in 1918, already offered more than 30 commodities through its shipping, packing and repacking operations. In addition to its Michigan headquarters, Superior has facilities in Walla Walla, Wash., and Salinas and Kingsburg, Calif.
