Green City Growers operates a 3.5-acre greenhouse in urban Cleveland. Year-round production began last December. Expected annual volume is 3 million lettuce heads and 300,000 pounds of herbs, grown for customers within 150 miles.
Pellek was GreenLine Foods marketing manager for Apio Inc. for five years prior to joining Green City Growers July 15. In that role she led product development efforts, according to a news release. She has more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience.
Grimmett joined the cooperative July 29. He began his career with Green Circle Growers in Oberlin, Ohio, as a section grower and manager overseeing six acres of plant production in a 60-acre facility.
“With Joy’s and Jason’s expertise, we look forward to continuing to grow our customer base while we expand our herb program and add new varieties of specialty greens and lettuce to the tens of thousands of heads of lettuce we are growing and harvesting each week,” Mary Donnell, chief executive officer of Green City Growers, said in the release.
Green City Growers is the third cooperative business to join Cleveland’s Evergreen Cooperatives network, which the Cleveland Foundation helped launch in 2009 as part of the Greater University Circle Initiative.
