The giant, lighted mushroom dropped at midnight in Kennett Square, Pa., with about 4,000 people turning out for the inaugural event.
The public event featured a 700-pound mushroom, food and music, according to a news release from Avondale, Pa.-based To-Jo Mushrooms, one of the event’s sponsors.
More than 3,000 pounds of food items donated at the event will benefit the Kennett Food Cupboard, a local food bank.
“To-Jo was proud to be an integral part of the inaugural event. New Year’s Eve in Kennett will never be the same,” Anthony D’Amico, To-Jo’s president, said in the release.
