Chuck Robinson, Media WatchThere are plenty of warm fuzzies to enjoy with the pack of grower-shippers that signed on with Sony Pictures to cross-promote produce items with the movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”
If the first movie is any indication, this will be a fun movie. I can imagine going to it with grandnephews and grandnieces when it opens Sept. 27.
Pile on the warm fuzzies for the donations planned in conjunction with the movie’s promotion to Feeding America, a nonprofit national network of food banks.
It is in line to get more than 80,000 pounds of donations from participating produce organizations and cash from Sony Pictures.
These companies are onto something with this cross-promotion: California Giant Berry Farms, Taylor Farms and its Cal-Organic Farms brand, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Grimmway Farms and the National Watermelon Promotion Board.
I saw a promotional flick on Feeding America’s website. It would be awesome to see some versions of it on retail store video screens.
Foxy and “Cook’s Country”
The Nunes Co. and its Foxy brand has launched a Facebook recipe contest offering the winner a trip for two to view a taping of the public television show “Cook’s Country from America’s Test Kitchen” and meet the host, Christopher Kimball.
“Cook’s Country” is based on Cook’s Country magazine, which is published by the same company as Cook’s Illustrated. The company also produces the TV show “America’s Test Kitchen." The contest is part of a yearlong partnership between Salinas, Calif.-based The Nunes Co. and “America’s Test Kitchen.”
Consumers are encouraged to use any Foxy produce item in a recipe and submit it with a photo of the dish to the contest platform at the Foxy Produce Facebook page.
Recipe submissions will be judged on taste, flavor, visual appeal, use of Foxy produce items and clarity of instruction. The winner is expected to be announced July 22.
