Quite honestly, I presume, she admitted to racist comments. That has caused Food Network and others to drop her.

I will let Jessica Williams, who skewered Deen on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” serve up one of my thoughts: “Paula Deen’s words aren’t hurting black people anyway near as much as her recipes are.”

Williams meant it sarcastically, but I have written before that the title “Queen of Southern Cooking” is more deservingly given to someone other than Deen, and that is the late Edna Lewis.

Lewis learned Southern cooking from her mother, aunts and neighbors. She took that education to New York, where she became a chef. She wrote a 1976 book, “The Taste of Country Cooking.”

Lewis served up country-fried apples, watermelon rind pickles and the like. In contrast, Deen offers her Better Than Sex cake, a concoction of yellow cake mix, instant vanilla pudding, canned pineapple and dessert topping.

I prefer a plate of something from the real queen of Southern cooking, please.
