Westport, Conn.-based NatureSeal will showcase an anti-browning treatment for potatoes at the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Oct. 26-28 in Anaheim, Calif.
After introducing the treatment, called Reducit, at the 2012 Canadian Produce Marketing Association convention and expo in April, NatureSeal plans to unveil it to a larger North American audience at PMA, said Karen Murphy, NatureSeal’s marketing director.
Reducit prevents browning in cut potatoes for up to two days. NatureSeal, known for its anti-browning treatment for fresh-cut apples, is billing Reducit as an all-natural alternative to sulfite treatments, which pose an allergy risk to some consumers and workers.
Three U.S. processors are now using Reducit on fresh-cut potatoes, Murphy said.
