The Idaho Potato Commission is taking its Spuddy Buddy mascot to its state capitol to help teach children about the health benefits of eating their state’s potatoes.
The Eagle-based commission is partnering with Idaho’s first lady, Lori Otter, to create and launch “Smashed Spuddy Buddy,” an interactive program to teach kids about the nutrition value of Idaho potatoes.
A related contest also provides parents the chance to win one of 75 $100 cash prizes, according to a news release.
During Capitol Day festivities, Otter plans to present the program to a group of more than 150 students and teachers and help the students color their Smashed Spuddy Buddy handout, according to the release.
Smashed Spuddy Buddy is a black and white trademarked drawing of the commission’s Spuddy Buddy mascot.
The commission plans to encourage parents and teachers of students in grades 1-3 to watch a video on how potatoes grow and take a short quiz after the video.
Parents can take photos of their children’s Smashed Spuddy Buddy drawing and upload it to http://www.idahopotato.com/kids to be entered into the sweepstakes.
