The U.S. Potato Board has been awarded the Produce for Better Health Foundation’s Role Model award for its efforts to raise produce consumption.
The Denver-based board was one of 31 non-retail organizations that received the award March 30 in Monterey, Calif., according to a board news release.
Hockessin, Del.-based PBH recognized the board for efforts including linking to the PBH’s www.FruitsAndVeggiesMoreMatters.org website; speaking about Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® during meetings and presentations; attending the foundation’s annual board meeting and dinner/auction; and participating actively in this year’s “Half Your Plate” program, which encourages consumers to fill half their plate with fruits and vegetables.
The three plates sponsored by the board for “Half Your Plate” were Carnival Roasted Potatoes, Buffalo Chicken Potato Skins and Burger & Fries.
“We are glad to be part of a program motivating consumers to ‘rebalance’ their plates with more fruits and vegetables,” Meredith Myers, the board’s public relations manager, said in the release. “Plans are already in place for working hand-in-hand with PBH to inspire new, healthy ideas about potatoes throughout the next year.”
