Frieda’s continues Halloween produce campaign

FriedaIn an effort to boost sales, Frieda’s Specialty Produce, Los Alamitos, Calif., is offering Halloween-themed merchandising tips to retailers for the third straight year.

The company is also using a “Spooky Foods” social media campaign to increase produce sales over the holiday. The campaign features a Kiwano carving and decorating contest and a “Spooky Foods” Pinterest board inspiring consumers to incorporate specialty foods into their Halloween celebrations.

“The great thing about specialty produce is that many of them are already scary-looking,” president and chief executive officer Karen Caplan said in a news release. “While shoppers look for creative ideas for their Halloween parties, they are also looking for a healthy alternative to offset that sugary candy.”

Along with Halloween essentials like miniature pumpkins and ornamental gourds, Frieda’s specialty products include Kiwano, dragon fruit, Buddha’s hand citron, black garlic, and orange and purple cauliflower.
