Monterey, Calif.-based Dole Fresh Vegetables is promoting May 1 as National Salad Day.
May has long been recognized as National Salad Month. Singling out May 1 is a way to jump-start the month and spark interest in Dole salads, company spokesman Bob Ochsner said.
“We’re partnering with the national recipe aggregator site Tastespotting.com to host a national Facebook and Twitter virtual salad-making event,” Ochsner said.
Tastespotting will post salad and salad-based photos from 3-8 p.m. Eastern time May 1. To be eligible, all recipes must include at least one Dole Salads blend or kit.
In addition to salads, entrée, side, soup and breakfast dishes incorporating the products will be accepted. To help participants brainstorm, Dole plans to share its own protein-included recipes in an event dubbed the National Salad Day Tweet Up.
From 3-4 p.m., Dole plans to invite consumers to tweet @DOLESaladGuide with the hashtag #SaladDay with blog posts, recipes, photos and salad-based ideas.
The company will encourage participants to use its Dole Extra Veggie Salads, Ochsner said.
