The wrapped three-count tray from Fresno, Calif.-based Baloian features a seasoning blend packet created specifically for squash, according to a company news release.
The tray includes a mix of whole yellow and green squash. The seasoning packets come in two flavors: parmesan and herb; and garlic and red pepper.
“Consumers will get to enjoy the benefit of fresh squash, along with great flavor options that are convenient and easy to prepare, making this product the perfect complement to any home-cooked meal, any time of the year,” Jeremy Lane, Baloian Farms’ sales director, said in the release.
The size and content of the new pack is based on research which found that the average consumer generally buys two or three pieces and a mix of both yellow and green squash at a time.
Focus group research found strong support for the two seasoning options.
The pack was designed for easy preparation, Lane said. Consumers rinse and slice the squash, toss with oil, add the seasoning packet and sauté for five minutes.
“It’s pantry to plate in just over five minutes, and the only additional ingredient is olive oil,” he said. “It’s just so easy and so good.”
The product will be available year-round, and Baloian plans to add additional seasonings. It comes in an 8-count case and retails for about $3.99 per pack.
