iMastronardi Produce has received rave reviews for its winter tomatoes from its Coldwater, Mich., facility.

Kingsville, Ontario-based Mastronardi Produce is shipping greenhouse on-the-vine and grape tomatoes from Michigan year-round, according to a company news release.

Mastronardi Produce opened the facility in 2012.

“The ability to grow fresh tomatoes in the middle of winter is something we are very proud of,” Paul Mastronardi, Mastronardi Produce’s chief executive officer, said in the release. “The location of Coldwater means we can pick, pack and ship the freshest possible tomatoes in the same day. This means we continue to deliver the highest flavor possible while also reducing food miles.”

Mastronardi Produce began an expansion of the Coldwater facility this winter. It’s expected to be completed this summer. The project will double the size of Mastronardi Produce’s greenhouse, giving the facility 60 acres of production.

“We’ve received incredible feedback from our Midwest customers who are thrilled to have flavorful local tomatoes during the winter,” he said in the release.
