The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the University of California, Riverside, a $9 million grant to find ways to improve late blight management in tomatoes and potatoes.
As part of the project, the team will deploy a national late blight reporting and alert system with an integrated decision support system.
Howard Judelson, a UC Riverside plant pathology professor, will lead the efforts.
He will be joined by researchers from UCR as well as Cornell University, the University of Idaho, USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, North Carolina State University, University of Florida, University of Kentucky, University of Maine, Oregon State University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Wisconsin, University of Maryland, the University of South Carolina, Purdue University, Scottish Crop Research Institute and La Universidad Autónoma Chapingo in Mexico.
