Shives Ruben Shives, sales manager for Edinburg, Texas-based Edinburg Citrus Association died Nov. 20 at age 55.
Shives joined the Edinburg Citrus sales staff in 1995. He also worked as an inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Rio Grande Valley and as a buyer and inspector for Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway. He became the sales manager at Edinburg Citrus in the 2008-09 season.
A statement from Edinburg Citrus said Shives had a larger than life personality.
“It has to be said that there are people that shine and have the ability to draw people to them and Ruben was that type of person,” it said. “He has left an indelible impression on his Edinburg Citrus family, friends in the industry and customers across the country.”
A memorial services was held Nov. 24. Shives is survived by wife Belen, son Ruben, daughter Melissa and five grandchildren.
