The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited four produce companies for failing to pay for produce, a violation of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act.
The companies are:
Delta Produce LP, San Antonio, for failing to pay $1.5 million to 56 sellers for 198 lots of produce. Delta Produce’s license has been suspended until Feb. 28, 2015. The responsibly connected principals listed are W. Scott Jensen and Delta Produce Management LLC.
Mister Bee Potato Chip Company, Parkersburg, W.Va., for failing to pay $287,519 to two sellers for 52 lots of produce. Mister Bee cannot operate in the industry until March 16, 2015. The responsibly connected principals are Alan Klein, Douglas Klein, Sally Klein and Andrew Klein.
Freshco Foodservice Inc., Portland, Ore., for failing to pay $288,371 to eight sellers for 58 lots of produce. The USDA has barred Freshco Foodservice from operating in the industry until March 16, 2015. The responsibly connected principal is Christopher Kathrens
Delta Fresh Fruit Inc., Vernon, Calif., for failing to pay $338,659 to seven sellers for 49 lots of produce. Delta Fresh Fruit Inc. is barred from operating in the industry until Feb. 14, 2015. One responsibly connected principal is Julio Nievas. Two others are challenging their responsibly connected status.
All responsibly connected individuals cannot work in the industry for one year, and then only with an USDA-approved bond.
