Colorful HarvestColorful Harvest LLC partners Doug Ranno, Tom Remick, David Knudsen and Art Davis have sold their shares to the Andrew Smith Co. and Jeffrey Sholl, giving each a 50% stake in the Salinas, Calif.-based company.

Steffanie Smith, co-owner of California Sprouts LLC, Rancho Cordova, Calif., will become chief executive officer of Colorful Harvest. Ranno will remain chief operating officer, according to a news release.

Sholl remains chief executive officer of Potandon Produce LLC and the Vista Institute. He is a partner with Steffanie Smith and Andy Smith in California Sprouts LLC.

Ranno, Remick, Knudsen and Davis held a 60% interest. They and Sholl are cofounders of the Salinas, Calif.-based grower-shipper.

Colorful Harvest supplies fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, as well as vegetables with distinctive colors. It has growing and cooling operations in Florida, Central Mexico and Northern California.

The Andrew Smith Co., a shipper of bulk produce also based in Salinas, has additional operations in Mexico and Florida. Colorful Harvest and the Andrew Smith Co. will maintain their respective Salinas offices.

“With the acquisition, Colorful Harvest will continue to provide consumers with colorful and nutritious fresh produce while expanded research capabilities in seed breeding, product development, and marketing expertise will ensure Colorful Harvest maintains a leading position as innovator in colorful heirloom style vegetables and fresh berries,” Sholl said in the release.

“The new partnership will take advantage of many unique business synergies and complementary growing regions, and will provide capital for long term growth to help carry on the mission of Colorful Harvest for years to come,” Ranno said.
