E-mail alerts are now available from the Food and Drug Administration’s Food Defense Team on a variety of topics including recalls and guidance documents.
Users can customize the list of alerts they receive from a master list when they sign up.
Although the alerts are designed for the general public, according to an FDA news release, some of the topics are of interest to those in the produce supply chain, including: warning letters, enforcement reports and updates on the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Related tools are available through the FDA’s Food Defense program at http://tinyurl.com/Food-Defense.
Those tools include the Food Related Emergency Exercise Bundle, which includes scenarios on traceback investigations spurred by random testing, procedures used when clusters of illnesses related to a foodservice establishment are detected, and how the government investigates E. coli contamination of produce.
