Mark MungerMunger(UPDATED COVERAGE, Feb. 7) Mark Munger, longtime Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce executive, has joined Los Angeles-based MCL Fresh Inc. as vice president of sales and marketing.

It’s a new position at the grower, packer and shipper of organic, conventional and specialty vegetables and fruits.

For 10 years Munger served as vice president of marketing for Andrew & Williamson. He was based in Watsonville, Calif.

“To leave is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” he said. “Andrew & Williamson is a fantastic company. At this stage of my career, it was a chance to take on some risk, a big challenge and more responsibility.”

Before Andrew & Williamson, Munger was director of marketing at Driscoll Strawberry Associates Inc., where he worked for seven years. His other experience includes three-year stints as retail division director for the Produce Marketing Association, and as western region merchandiser for The Nolan Network.

His responsibilities at MCL Fresh — whose labels include Real Organics and 4-Earth conventional produce — are in business development, customer-related outreach and projects.

“Its core items are sugar snap peas, snow peas, green beans and brussels sprouts,” Munger said. “The major growing areas are California, the Southwest and Mexico. They are constantly on the look for new regions and new items that will add value to their mix year-round. One of the reasons this position was created is to help continue that growth.”

“Because MCL is in Los Angeles, they’re in a great location to source items, to consolidate and provide logistical services to customers for the items they’re growing and packing,” he said.

“Mark’s industry experience, reputation, and creative vision will be a great asset as we continue to develop and grow our business,” David Lake, MCL Fresh president, said in a news release.

MCL Fresh was founded in 1993 as a provider of specialties, extending its services and items over time.
