The new carton follows that design but keeps the “World Famous Fruit” tagline with the Stemilt logo and adds a 50th year anniversary emblem. The tagline was originated by Mathison’s son, apple, pear and cherry grower Kyle Mathison.

It’s expected to appear at retail within two weeks. Besides the white box, there are blue and red versions for other grades.

Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers also plans to use the 50th anniversary emblem with its white box for cherries this summer, and will have a pear label to match the look beginning in August.

“The anniversary carton series is just one way we will be celebrating this milestone in 2014,” Roger Pepperl, marketing director, said in a news release.

The emblem, designed in-house, will appear throughout Stemilt marketing efforts and materials.

Tom Mathison began his tree fruit packing and shipping operation in 1964 on Stemilt Hill in Wenatchee. His family had been farming there since homesteading 160 acres in 1893.

Besides apples, pears and cherries, the company packs stone fruits and organics.
