Automated Packaging adds scale to its bagger

CHICAGO — Streetsboro, Ohio-based Automated Packaging Systems is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the two brothers who founded the company (Hershey and Bernie Lerner) were inducted into the PMMI Packaging Hall of Fame at Pack Expo 2012 at McCormick Place Oct. 28-31.

The company also has collaborated with Yamato Corp. on a semi-automatic scale/bagger combination for food applications, including fresh produce.

Chris Rempe, director of product management at Automated Packaging Systems, says the newest FAS SPrint Revolution bagger is ideal for fresh produce such as grapes and “presents a horizontal row of pre-opened bags that are ready for automatic loading from the fully-integrated Yamato Dataweigh TSDW-205W scale.”

“The system loads the weighed products directly into the bag and is ideal for packaging fresh food and fragile products such as grapes, shrimp, fruit, vegetables, beef jerky and other products sold by a fixed weight.”

Stainless steel construction and detachable conveyors simplify washdown procedures with unpressurized hose water.

“The Yamato weigh scale and FAS SPrint Revolution complement each other extremely well,” Rempe said. “The individual components combine to create a high-quality solution capable of producing very accurate, fixed-weight packages in a small footprint and at a reasonable cost.”
