The Produce Merchandising Association’s Fresh Summit, Oct. 26-28, couldn’t have been timed better for Ocean Mist Farms and its efforts to work with retailers on holiday planning.
Among the holiday items from the Castroville, Calif., vegetable grower-packer-shipper are celery, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts.
“Brussels sprouts were an overwhelming hot commodity with retailers last year. Based on data, demand is still growing,” Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development, said in the release.
As a result, Ocean Mist plans to launch brussels sprouts in 1-pound microwavable zipper lock bags and 2-pound cello club packs at Fresh Summit.
The microwavable bag, similar to one the company uses for artichokes, allows consumers to open it and add seasoning before cooking.
Tony Baker, a chef with Montrio Bistro, Monterey, Calif., will demonstrate different items he’s created that feature brusssels sprouts at Ocean Mist’s booth during the show.
