FLORIDA — Shipments (124-159-233, red-flesh seeded 16-29-53, red-flesh seedless 51-130-180) — Movement expected to increase as more growers start the season in central Florida. Harvesting slowed. Trading very active. Prices generally unchanged. 24-inch bins per-pound red-flesh seeded-type 35s 24-25 cents; red-flesh seedless-type 45 count 29-30 cents, 60 count 29-30 cents. Quality generally good.

IMPERIAL AND COACHELLA VALLEYS, CALIF., AND CENTRAL AND WESTERN ARIZONA — Shipments (AZ seedless 0-23-16, CA 0-26-78, seedless 0-24-73, seeded 0-2-5) — Movement from western Arizona, Imperial and Coachella valleys expected to increase seasonally. Trading fairly active at slightly lower prices. Prices slightly lower. Red-flesh seedless-type per pound 24-inch bins approximately 35 and 45 counts mostly 22 cents. Organic red-flesh seedless 24-inch bins per pound approximately 35 and 45 counts 35 cents; miniature carton 6s and 8s $20.50. Quality generally good. FMI awards $100,000 grant to Fuel Up to Play 60

The Food Marketing Institute Foundation has awarded $100,000 to Fuel Up to Play 60’s Healthy Lifestyle Grant program.

The program is to encourage students and their adult program leaders, to engage supermarket health and wellness professionals as nutritional resources, according to a news release.

The grant money will help schools implement one of two new strategies that promote healthy eating that are part of a school’s Fuel Up to Play 60 playbook.

The Healthy Lifestyle Grant is open to schools in the U.S. participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or the School Breakfast Program and are enrolled in the National Dairy Council’s Fuel Up to Play 60 program for the 2012-13 school year, according to the release.

Schools may apply for up to $3,000 in funding to help implement a “Healthy Eating Play” which includes a visit to a local supermarket and an activity that encourages at least 60 minutes of fitness each day.

Eligible schools can apply online for the 2012-13 school year until Nov. 16.
