Philadelphia produce magnate seeks casino license

Joseph Procacci is vying with five other interests for rights to a second casino in Philadelphia.

The application for the casino was filed in mid-November by PHL Local Gaming LLC, representing the interests of Joseph G. Procacci, founder and chief executive of Philadelphia-based Procacci Bros. Sales Corp.

Doug Harbach, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, said the decision on naming the winner of the casino license would probably come by late 2013.

Harbach said Procacci’s application calls for a casino called Casino Revolution relatively close to Philadelphia’s sports stadium complex, at 3333 South Front Street. Procacci’s proposal includes plans for a casino with 2,000 slot machines, 60 gaming tables, 25 poker tables and a 250 room hotel.

For the winning applicant, Harbach said the licenses for slot machine and table games licenses will cost about $75 million up front, in addition to the hundreds of millions it may take to construct the hotel and casino.

A spokesman for Procacci Bros. Sales Corp. referred questions about the potential casino to Merit PHL, LLC, a management company for PHL Local Gaming, LLC.

Sugar House Casino is the only casino in Philadelphia now, Harbach said.

From the perspective of a local business owner, it would be nice to see someone with
Joe's roots in the area win the application. It would be good for the region and for the
industry.
Good luck Joe!
