Coral BeachVice president of sales Joe Spano sized up the Mucci crop in January and said that he anticipated a late February beginning for harvest in the newest greenhouse.Good construction weather allowed the newest 30-acre greenhouse at Mucci Farms to be finished early.

That meant early planting leading to early harvest, which started Feb. 27 at the Kingsville, Ontario, operation.

Tomatoes-on-the-vine from the greenhouse are being packed at Mucci’s new 65,000-square-foot production and shipping facility and should be available at retailers almost immediately.

Joe Spano, vice president of sales, said in a news release that Mucci is “out of the gate and ready to offer our signature tomatoes for our retail partners. It is going to be an exciting month here at Mucci Farms.”

The new greenhouse features two sets of high-tech curtains. One holds in heat during cold weather, the other reflects some of the sun’s rays in summer to prevent sunburn of the plants.

Mucci grows a variety of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers in its greenhouses.
