Mountain View Fruit Sales, Reedley, Calif., is adding the Non-GMO Project Verified logo to packaging, its website and social media outlets.

It certifies that the company’s fruits do not come from genetically modified trees or plants. Mountain View Fruit offers stone fruit and pomegranates under the Summeripe, Angel Red and other brands.

“(It) underscores our commitment to the consumer to provide not only a delicious eating experience, but a safe one as well,” owner Mike Thurlow said in a news release. “This verification provides a clear explanation that leaves the consumer with no doubt what they’re eating.”

The shipper had received telephone calls and social media inquiries about the GMO status of its products, said Chad Cotton, marketing coordinator.

“Consumers are looking more and more at not only where their food comes from, but also what its origin is,” he said.

Labelling food as GMO is not required in the U.S. and Canada.
