Angela Bader, marketing coordinator for Testa Produce, said the firm has added 10 trucks that use compressed natural gas to its fleet.
The compressed natural gas trucks replace Testa’s biodiesel fleet and lower its carbon footprint. The addition helps bring the company closer to its goal of zero dependence on foreign oil within five years, according to a news release from the company.
The 24-foot refrigerated trucks are quieter, produce fewer emissions and require less maintenance than diesel-biodiesel trucks with no loss of power or mileage, according to the release.
Local aggregate program
In other news, Bader said Testa has integrated FarmLogix local aggregate program into the ordering process. FarmLogix, uses proprietary technology to connect local farms with schools, hotels, restaurants, and other institutions, according to the company website.
“The (FarmLogix) program allows customers to sign on to the website directly and select produce from over 100 local farms,” Bader said. “They have the ability to select the farm and product and have it delivered with their Testa Produce order.”
The feature makes it easier for customers to meet their local needs in a one-stop-shop kind of scenario, Bader said.
