Described as a “private, back-stage tour” by show organizers, the retail tour is scheduled to include stops at a Target “PFresh” store, a Walgreens drug store and a Pete’s Fresh Market suburban supermarket.
Target launched the PFresh format regionally in 2008 and expanded it nationwide in 2010. With the PFresh format, Target’s smaller, general merchandise stores offer a condensed perishables department that includes most commonly purchased produce commodities sold at unit prices.
During the Walgreens stop on the retail tour, attendees will see how the chain’s urban markets have expanded inventories to include fresh-cut fruit, packaged salads and other convenience items designed for on-the-go consumers.
Pete’s Fresh Market began as a fruit stand on Chicago’s South Side in the early 1970s. It has grown to be a supermarket chain with nine locations in the Chicago area.
