(Jan. 16) Mission Ranches Company LLC, King City, Calif., has announced merging operations with another produce business in the state’s Central Coast region, in a move to boost effiencies and product quality.
The company said in a news release Jan. 16 that by joining with Salinas-based Sam McKinsey Farms LLC, the two firms would be able to meet increased demand from consumers, while also entering new markets.
Terms of the agreement between the two will result in a combined operation under the Mission Ranches name, still based in King City. Sam McKinsey and Ron Harney will join Stan Pura, John Romans, David Gill and Mike Hitchcock as member-owners of the business, Mission said.
Prior to the merger, Mission and McKinsey collectively grew organic and conventional commodities such as lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and green onions, as well as specialty items ranging from spring mix to bok choy to cilantro and more.
Mission said Sam McKinsey would take a more active role in the Growers Express programs and would manage certain operations at Mission, while Harney would oversee Mission’s Salinas production.
“I have worked closely with this same group of partners in our affiliated operations, investments and growth plans for 15 years,” said Sam McKinsey, in a statement. “I am looking forward to building a stronger foundation from each partner having different strengths and inputs.”
