Courtesy Taylor FarmsTaylor Farms is offering three new chopped salad kits for nationwide retail.

Limited distribution of the kits — Asian , Garden Vegetable and Southwest chopped salads — began in some East Coast markets two months ago, said Vicky St. Geme, vice president of marketing.

“We had a couple early customers taking the product, and we’re doing a full launch starting this month and hitting all our current and new customers,” St. Geme said.

Taylor Farms saw an opportunity for the products in restaurant trends.

“We believe this could be a new segment within the salad category,” St. Geme said. “As we watched trends to help build new value-added products, we started seeing chopped salads becoming more prevalent in restaurant menus. We looked at different combinations of lettuces and vegetables and concentrated on the vegetable cut to come up with these three new kits.”

Ingredients vary but include such chopped items as broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery and green onions — along with cabbages or romaine.

“It’s not just a leafy or lettuce kit,” St. Geme said.

The limited Eastern distribution prompted queries about the kits from other regions on Taylor Farms’ Facebook page, she said. St. Geme is advising consumers and retailers to expect availability on the West Coast this month.

The kits come with toppings and dressings. For a bit of added crunch they include such items as wonton noodles, toasted almonds, sunflower kernels, crumbled bacon or tortilla strips.

Found these salads at Wegmans, had the Southwest one for dinner and it was GREAT. Very fresh and crunchy, full of flavor. Even my picky 10 yr old went back for seconds.

I tried it today. I considered the quality very good. As far as a salad? Its Cole Slaw. It had packets of Bacon bits, sun flower seeds, and Cranberries included? As well as a dressing. Overall I felt the quality was very good, needed about 2 x as much dressing and I prefer light dressing on slaw and salads. What I could taste was cabbage, carrots, and broccoli. Very good for the price IMHO. This should be labeled Cold Slaw not Salad I would purchase again. Price 1.50 for a 3.1oz kit, Sams Club: I suspect this is a test drive for Sams

I tried the Asian Chopped Salad and it was EXCELLENT! I agree 100% that this was a cabbage salad. Perfect for work; I had enough for two plates of salad and I still have a half bag left for tomorrow's lunch. All components were crispy and freash; Flavor was perfect.

My husband and I loved both the Asian salad and the Southwest. I served the southwest at a luncheon and friends are still asking for the recipe. So easy, and So delicious- Definately buying those again!!

The Asian Chopped Salad was fantastic. It was fresh and didn't have any taste or smell of cleaning agents or preservatives. 3 of us in my family split 2 bags and my daughter put a little shredded chicken in hers and that was dinner. Yummy!

I just finished my lunch with the Asian Chopped Salad and it was awesome! I bring salad for lunch every day and this is a delightful change...I love the cabbage, green onions, parsley and the wonton and almond toppings and of course, the dressing! 1 bag will provide 3 lunches for me! Best Salad Kit on the market!! I purchased from Target and will definitely purchase again! Great creation!!!

This is a fantastic salad and a great value! I eat at my desk at work and normally a lettuce salad of any kind gets yucky pretty quick. Because of the hearty chopped cabbage, broccoli, califlower and carrots, it stayed crunchy for the hour it took me to eat. And, with such a generous portion for the price, i'll be having this for lunch tomorrow. Please don't stop selling these and please bring out more variety. I loved the Southwest and can't wait to try the other salads available. I would love to see chicken, turkey, beef or ham added to other varieties to make it a total lunch meal.

I've tried both salads - love them both - maybe the Southwestern more than the Asian. But I'm somewhat disappointed, you need to come up with an Italian chopped salad!!!

Do you distribute your salad kits in the Scottsdale area?

LOVE this stuff! Enough dressing for two medium-sized salads, and about a 1/3 of bag of veggies leftover .. which is perfect for a stir-fry or rice-paper wraps :-) The southwest salad is yummy too!
