The program, a partnership involving the Jets, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the American Dairy Association & Dairy Council’s Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign, is now in its sixth year and stresses the importance of eating nutritious foods and increasing physical activity, according to a news release.

“Staying in shape and having a nutritious diet isn’t just important for professional athletes,” Mulligan told the student body. “I feel privileged to be here today to congratulate these students and this school for their commitment to health and wellness.”

Among the efforts by the dining services staff is a weekly salad bar for students. Since the salad bar began last year, participation has increased 200%, according to Diane Tomori, director of dining services.

In the coming weeks, other New Jersey schools will receive visits from Jets players: Haledon Public School, Haledon; P.S. #25, Nicolaus Copernicus School, Jersey City; and Oak Street School, Lakewood.
